December 2nd will be a date remembered by Kyle O’Reilly for the rest his life. The date he became Ring Of Honor (ROH) World Champion after defeating long time rival Adam Cole, live on Pay-Per-View.
Just over seven years after debuting in ROH against Tony Kozina, Kyle finally achieved a long time goal in becoming champion, the one title that has eluded his entire run in ROH. After winning the ROH World Tag-Team Championships with ReDragon member Bobby Fish, he set his sites on the World Title. With igniting an old flame in the heavily storied rivalry between Kyle and Adam, the main event was set for Final Battle.
After defeating Cole, the New York fans celebrated and chanted “You deserve it!” in the Hammerstein Ballroom, Kyle went on to commend his opponent and fellow SPLX athlete Adam Cole;
“I have to give credit, where credit is due. Adam Cole made one hell of a Ring Of Honor champion. If I can carry this company half as well as him, I will consider this title run a massive success.”
O’Reilly then went on to declare his goals for the ROH World Championship and love for New York City;
“As far as this championship goes, I promise you all I will defend this title every damn show if I have to. I will defend it with honour, I will defend it with integrity and pride. I’m so thankful and glad that I got to have this moment here, in this city, because if you can make it in New York – you can make it anywhere.”
Well done and many congratulations from the team and the SPLX office.
